Lee Loveless - Guitar

Personal

This page is designed to give you a little info on me and my junk.  In general, I've been playing guitar since I was nine years old; electric, since fifteen.  My mother was a rabid Beatles fan and my dad liked guys like Web Pierce, Roger Miller and Leon Russell.  Music was always a big part of my life and I always felt connected to it.  Before high school, I was a big Elton John fan.  In high school my attention turned to Yes.  Classic Yes is still one of my very favorite things to listen to.  Then...I was like a man, splitting in two...on one hand there was Yes, Rush, Jeff Beck, DiMiola, and on the other, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow!  I've continued to have this dichotomy in my taste.  Spock's Beard - Pain of Salvation - Dream Theater - and the dark chords of Opeth.  I don't know...

OK, I'm bored with my bio, so I'll list the other things.  I'll write more if you want me to or if I get a wild hair.

Influences

I kind of don't like that term because often one is expected to sound like one's influences.  I think that some influences are more easily recognized in one's work than others.  Some influences are unintentional, for example Jimmy Page, never one of my favorites but anyone playing rock guitar that grew up in the seventies would be in denial if they said JP wasn't an influence.  Others, only certain techniques were picked up, such as Al DiMiola for me.  I don't cognitively phrase like him, but he heavily influenced how I use my pick.  Anyway, this isn't necessarily a list of favorite guitarists, but those who have influenced how I approach the instrument.  OK, so here is a list:

  • Jeff Beck
  • Ritchie Blackmore
  • John Petrucci
  • Steve Howe
  • Michael Romeo
  • Al DiMiola
  • Jimmy Page
  • Alex Lifeson
  • Ty Tabor
  • Phil Keagy
  • Carlos Santana
  • Eric Clapton
